The Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center is at 200 Civic Center Drive in downtown Charleston, WV. The City of Charleston owns it. It opened in January 1959 as the Charleston Civic Center. A large expansion and renovation ran from 2015 to 2018. The arena seats more than 12,000 people for basketball.
In early 2021, the county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held weekly Saturday COVID-19 vaccine clinics at the Coliseum. Partners included the City of Charleston, the Kanawha County Commission, Charleston Area Medical Center, Thomas Health, West Virginia Health Right, FamilyCare, the University of Charleston and the West Virginia National Guard.
- New doses went to people with appointments made through the state registration system. Second doses went to people who got a first dose from the health department in set weeks.
- Drive-through shots were given on the Coliseum’s Lee Street lot, at the loading dock, for people with a drive-through appointment.
- Free parking was in the Coliseum’s Quarrier Street garage.
