In 2021 the county health department and its partners held walk-in COVID-19 clinics in Charleston. At these clinics people could get a vaccine, a test, or both, with no appointment. Each clinic had set hours for walk-ins.
Walk-in hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. were used at the spring 2021 vaccine clinics at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center:
- Saturday, April 24, 2021: the last weekly Coliseum clinic took walk-ins from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for anyone 16 and older.
- Saturday, May 15, 2021: the clinic ran from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and took walk-ins from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It was open to people 12 and older, pending CDC approval of the Pfizer vaccine for that age group.
Later in 2021 the health department paired walk-in vaccines with COVID-19 testing at its office, 108 Lee Street East. In August 2021 it held walk-up vaccine and testing clinics on three Saturdays, August 7, 14 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
