Community COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, Charleston, WV

In the spring of 2021, the county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held a series of community COVID-19 vaccine clinics. Many took place on Saturdays at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. As supply grew, the clinics opened to more age groups and began to take walk-ins.

One of the later clinics was on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Coliseum. It was open to people 12 and older, pending CDC approval of the Pfizer vaccine for that age group. Anyone under 18 had to come with an adult. If that adult was not a parent or guardian, the child needed a signed note from a parent or guardian.

Appointments were made by phone at 304-348-8080, and walk-ins were taken from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Second doses were available for people who got a first Moderna dose on or before April 17 or a first Pfizer dose on or before April 24. Free parking was in the Coliseum’s Quarrier Street garage. A drive-through lane on the Lee Street lot was only for people with a drive-through or mobile appointment.

Partners included the City of Charleston, the Kanawha County Commission, Charleston Area Medical Center, Thomas Health System, West Virginia Health Right, FamilyCare, the University of Charleston and the West Virginia National Guard.
