Healthy Cafeteria Guidelines from Alere

Healthy cafeteria guidelines help employers make the healthy choice the easy choice in a workplace cafeteria, cafe or vending area. They are often part of a worksite wellness program.

Alere

Alere Inc. was a company based in Waltham, Massachusetts. It made rapid diagnostic tests and also ran health management services. In 2015, Alere sold its health management business, Alere Health, to Optum. Abbott Laboratories bought Alere in October 2017.

A public set of guidelines

The CDC links to the Food Service Guidelines for Federal Facilities. The guidelines cover cafeterias, cafes, snack bars, micro markets and vending machines. They set standards for food and nutrition, food safety and the layout that guides food choices. The CDC says public and private workplaces can also use them.

Employers can check their wellness programs with the CDC Worksite Health ScoreCard. See more tools under worksite wellness and in the wellness resources list.
