Recovery U was a residential program in Charleston, WV, for men in recovery from substance use. It offered a 6- to 12-month stay for substance use disorder and related mental health concerns. Services included individual and group counseling, and residents could see a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a primary care doctor. After the program, staff helped residents with housing, jobs and links to local support groups. A treatment directory now lists Recovery U as closed.
In 2021 the county health department and community partners took free HIV testing to places across the county, including homeless shelters and encampments. Most new HIV cases in the county that year were linked to injection drug use, so the outreach went to places where people at higher risk could be reached.
