HIV Testing at Recovery U

Recovery U

The county health department and community partners held a free HIV testing event at Recovery U during the 2021 outreach series.

Most new HIV cases in the county that year were linked to injection drug use, so the outreach went to places where people at higher risk could be reached, including homeless shelters and encampments.

Testing at these outreach events was free and came with linkage to care for anyone who tested positive. COVID-19 testing and vaccines, plus hepatitis A, hepatitis B and tetanus shots, were also offered. Residents who could not reach an event could call the health department at 304-348-8080 to set up an HIV test by appointment.
