The Drive-Through Hero & Health Fair took place on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Bible Center Church near Southridge in Charleston. It ran until 6 p.m. The county health department held it because many people had missed routine screenings and vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Free services included:
- Seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines, including COVID-19 booster shots
- Blood pressure and blood glucose checks
- At-home colon cancer screening tests
- Free or discounted routine bloodwork
- Car seat checks, smoke alarms and bicycle helmets
- Health education handouts
A similar fair at the Shawnee Sports Complex in early November 2021 drew 306 cars. At that event, 50 people were screened for colon cancer, more than 50 people got a smoke alarm, and 65 people had bloodwork done. The goal for the Bible Center fair was more than 150 COVID-19 shots and 100 flu shots.
Partners were the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, the Kanawha County Commission, the City of Charleston, CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital and the West Virginia Health Network. See Hero & Health Fair and Bible Center Church.
