The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, CAMC Women’s
and Children’s Hospital, the West Virginia Health Network, Kanawha County
Emergency Ambulance Authority, Kanawha County Commission, and the City of
Charleston today announced a drive-through hero and health fair to be held at Bible
Center Church on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 2-6:30 pm.
This is the second drive-through event of its kind this month in Kanawha County. The
event will consist of free seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines, free blood pressure and
blood glucose checks, free at-home colon cancer screening tests, free car seat checks,
free smoke alarms, free health education handouts, and free or discounted routine
bloodwork. Additionally, health fair attendees will be entered into a door prize drawing
and first responder heroes will be available for children to interact with.
“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, data has shown us that folks aren’t seeking their
annual checkups that may prevent a medical condition or diagnose an early medical
condition. After an overwhelmingly successful event earlier this month, we are very
excited to partner once again with so many local agencies to deliver a one-stop-shop of
healthcare tools,” said Dr. Sherri Young, Health Officer and Executive Director of the
Kanawha Charleston Health Department. “We are especially excited to offer a hero-
themed event that is welcoming to our youngest residents,” she added.
Michelle Coon, West Virginia Health Network President, said, “The West Virginia Health
Network is pleased to collaborate once again with the Kanawha-Charleston Health
Department, CAMC Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the Kanawha County Emergency
Ambulance Authority, and all of our community health partners to present the drive-
through health fair. We recognize that preventative care is something that has fallen
behind during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we hope that residents will take advantage
of this opportunity to address critical healthcare needs.” She added, “After our first
health fair was such a success, we were happy to join together once again to present a
health fair focused on children.”
