Shawnee Sports Complex, One Salango Way, Dunbar, was one of the most-used sites for drive-up COVID-19 testing in Kanawha County. The county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held a series of free events there. Some news reports placed the complex in Institute.

- Friday, July 10: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. WCHS-TV reported that 628 people were tested.

In the summer of 2020, anyone could get a test at these events, including people with no symptoms. People could call the health department hotline at 304-348-1088 to make an appointment, and the health department said drive-ups were not turned away.
In 2021 the complex was also the site of the first combined testing and vaccine clinic. See Drive-Through Testing and Vaccination Clinic. The complex also hosted a drive-through health fair in November 2021.
