In 2021 the county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority combined COVID-19 testing and vaccines at drive-through clinics.
The first combined clinic took place on Friday, April 2, 2021, at Shawnee Sports Complex in Dunbar. Vaccines there were by appointment, but testing needed no appointment. Health officials said their fall flu clinics had taught them how to run both services in one line.
In August 2021 the health department held drive-through and walk-in clinics on three Saturdays, August 7, 14 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Lee Street office.
