Operation Drumstick Aims to Stop COVID-19 Spread During Thanksgiving Dinner

Operation Drumstick was a series of COVID-19 testing and flu shot events in Kanawha County in November 2020, in the days before Thanksgiving. The county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority ran it. The goal was to let residents get a test before Thanksgiving.

WCHS Radio reported this schedule:

When the events ended on Thursday afternoon, the two agencies had given about 2,500 COVID-19 tests. The county health officer urged families to keep their Thanksgiving gatherings small. The health officer noted that, for the first time in the pandemic, cases were already rising before a holiday. The health officer said drive-thru testing events would return the week after Thanksgiving.
