The county health department worked with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority and Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) to give flu vaccines to children at Saturday clinics. These partners were part of a larger group that also included Kanawha County Schools, the City of Charleston and the Kanawha County Commission.
At the Saturday drive-thru flu clinics, the shots were free. Children had to come with a parent or guardian, and families could also get shots. High-dose flu vaccine was not offered at these events.
Two doses for some young children
The CDC recommends that children 6 months through 8 years old get two doses of flu vaccine, at least one month apart, the first season they get a flu vaccine.
