Health Officer Urges Caution Ahead of July Fourth Holiday

On July 1, 2020, the county health officer asked residents to take care over the Fourth of July weekend. The health department had counted 29 recent COVID-19 cases tied to travel to the Myrtle Beach area.

The health officer told families to think about where they were going and who they would be near, since other places had hot spots. People who stayed home were also asked to keep their distance, wear a face mask, wash their hands often, avoid touching their face and cover coughs and sneezes.

People who came back from a trip were asked to stay apart from others for 14 days if they could. If not, they were told to get a COVID-19 test and wear a mask. Anyone with symptoms was told to get tested and call their doctor.

The health officer also gave holiday safety tips. The health officer asked people to read fireworks labels, keep fireworks away from children and keep a bucket of water nearby. The tips also covered boating, driving and heat. See also Health officer urges Myrtle Beach-goers to be tested for COVID-19.
