Health Officer Urges Myrtle Beach-Goers to Be Tested for COVID-19

On June 18, 2020, the health department said it had traced three COVID-19 cases in Kanawha County residents to travel to the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina.

The county health officer asked anyone who had recently been to Myrtle Beach to get tested, even with no symptoms. Testing was offered at the health department clinic at 108 Lee Street East in Charleston from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The clinic stayed open on Friday, June 19, even though it was a holiday.

Appointments were preferred, and residents could call 304-348-1088 to make one. People who came without an appointment could be asked to wait in their cars to keep a safe distance from others.

Over the next two weeks, more cases were linked to the beach trips. By July 1, 2020, the health department counted 29 recent cases tied to Myrtle Beach travel. See Health officer urges caution ahead of July Fourth holiday.
