The county health department and community partners offered free HIV testing at Thomas Health as part of a wider testing push in 2021.
In 2021 the county health department and community partners took free HIV testing to sites across Kanawha County. Health officials reported 11 new HIV cases in the county in the first months of 2021, eight of them linked to injection drug use, and 60 cases since 2018.
Testing at these outreach events was free and came with linkage to care for anyone who tested positive. COVID-19 testing and vaccines, plus hepatitis A, hepatitis B and tetanus shots, were also offered. Residents who could not reach an event could call the health department at 304-348-8080 to set up an HIV test by appointment.
Other stops in the same series included the HIV testing at Thomas Memorial Hospital, the Chelyan Center and St. Albans. See Thomas Health for the place.
