HIV Testing at Thomas Memorial Hospital

Thomas Memorial Hospital

Free HIV testing was offered at Thomas Memorial Hospital as one stop in the 2021 outreach testing series run by the county health department and community partners.

The series began in spring 2021. By early May, outreach teams had tested 124 people since April 6 and averaged about 14 tests a day at public events. Two state disease intervention specialists who worked only on HIV joined the health department that spring to find people who needed testing and care.

Testing at these outreach events was free and came with linkage to care for anyone who tested positive. COVID-19 testing and vaccines, plus hepatitis A, hepatitis B and tetanus shots, were also offered. Residents who could not reach an event could call the health department at 304-348-8080 to set up an HIV test by appointment.
