The county health department held drive-through COVID-19 testing and vaccination events through 2021. The drive-through model started in 2020 for testing and was later used for vaccines too.
In late summer 2021, with COVID-19 cases rising, the health department ran Saturday clinics on August 7, 14 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 108 Lee Street in Charleston. No appointment was needed. A Sunday event followed on September 19, 2021, with the county commission, the ambulance authority and the Charleston Fire Department.
