The county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held their fourth community drive-up COVID-19 testing event on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Nitro High School. About 105 people signed up to be tested.
The event was open to the public, and day care workers were strongly encouraged to come, even without symptoms. West Virginia was starting to reopen at the time.
The health department had tested more than 500 people in the week before, with few positive results. The county health officer said the positives still showed the virus was spreading in the community. The next event was set for the following Wednesday, May 13, at West Virginia State University in Institute.
