In April 2020, the county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA) announced a community drive-up COVID-19 testing event. It was set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at KCEAA, 601 Brooks Street in Charleston.
Testing was by appointment only, and people had to have symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath. The county health officer said the first event was held close to home so staff could work out the process before taking it to other parts of the county. KCEAA said more events would follow.
Residents made appointments through the health department’s COVID-19 hotline, 304-348-1088. On the day, 26 people were tested. See Twenty-six tested during drive-up COVID-19 testing event.
