Kanawha County COVID-19 Cases Updated Daily at 4:30 p.m. ET

In the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the county health department posted the Kanawha County case count on its website every day. The afternoon count was given as of 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Local news used these updates to report the county totals.

The update gave the total number of positive cases, how many were active and how many were closed, and the number of deaths. Some days had a morning count as well. For example, on Friday, May 29, 2020:

  • At 9 a.m. the county had 224 cases: 58 active and 166 closed.
  • As of 4:30 p.m. the total was 228: 59 active and 169 closed.
  • Deaths stayed at 18.

In the busiest early weeks, the count changed several times a day. On April 2, 2020, it went from 45 cases in the morning to 47 by mid-afternoon and 50 by evening.
