WeightWatchers is a weight management program that Jean Nidetch founded in 1963. Members follow a points-based eating plan, track food in an app, and can join coach-led group sessions in person or online. It is a paid membership service.
In 2018 the company renamed its brand WW and said it would focus on wellness more broadly than weight. The company changed its legal name to WW International, Inc. in September 2019. The WeightWatchers name stayed in use as a trademark and on its website.
On May 6, 2025, WW International filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to cut about $1.15 billion in debt. Reports linked the filing to the rise of GLP-1 weight loss drugs. The company said members would not be affected during the process. Its current programs include its points plan, a menopause plan, a diabetes plan, and medical care through the WeightWatchers Clinic, where members who qualify can get a prescription for weight loss medicine.
