Pre-Register for Your COVID-19 Vaccine

On Monday, January 25, 2021, at 8 a.m., West Virginia opened a statewide pre-registration system for COVID-19 vaccine at vaccinate.wv.gov. The state said it was the first state to use this system, which was built by the company Everbridge.

Any West Virginian could pre-register. People could get updates by text, phone call or email. When vaccine was available for their group and area, people 65 and older and other priority groups got a message with an appointment. People already on a waitlist with a local health department or medical provider, and people who already had a first dose, were moved into the system and did not need to sign up again.

People who could not register online could call the state COVID-19 Vaccine Info Line at 1-833-734-0965. In January 2021 the line was open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How Kanawha County clinics used the list

The county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held large vaccine clinics at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center in early 2021. Appointments for these clinics went to people who had signed up through the state system, and walk-ins were not accepted.

For example, a clinic on Saturday, March 13, 2021, gave a limited number of new-dose appointments to people 50 and older, education workers age 40 to 50, and people 16 and older with certain medical conditions. People who got a first Moderna dose from February 8 to 13, or a first Pfizer dose from February 15 to 20, were called to schedule a second dose.
