On Saturday, April 10, 2021, health officials said more than 100,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses had been given in Kanawha County.
Much of that total came from large clinics at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, held on most Saturdays since January. Each of those clinics vaccinated thousands of people. The April 10 clinic alone gave 2,870 doses. The county health officer said every dose brought the county a little closer to the end of the pandemic.
The county health department ran the clinics with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, the City of Charleston, the Kanawha County Commission, CAMC, Thomas Health System, West Virginia Health Right, Family Care, the University of Charleston and the West Virginia National Guard. Smaller clinics were also held around the county, and residents could call the health department to book a vaccine.
