News Release: Health Department to Vaccinate 2,000 at Saturday Clinic

In January 2021, the county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority planned a Saturday COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. About 2,000 Kanawha County residents were expected to get a dose.

The clinic was for people 65 and older and for first responders. It was by appointment only, and walk-ups were not accepted. Earlier Coliseum clinics that month had filled every slot within hours, and people booked through a phone call center.

The clinic, held on Saturday, January 23, 2021, grew well past its target. More doses arrived than expected, and staff called people from a waiting list. By the end of the day, 3,870 people had been vaccinated. See Health Department and KCEAA Vaccinate 3,870 at Saturday Clinic.
