The county health department suspended Shingrix vaccinations at its clinic for a period of time. Shingrix is the two-dose vaccine that protects adults against shingles, an illness caused by the same virus as chickenpox.
CDC recommends Shingrix for adults 50 and older as two doses given 2 to 6 months apart. In 2018 and 2019, demand for the vaccine was far higher than the supply across the United States. Providers faced ordering limits and shipping delays, which in January 2019 were expected to last into 2020. CDC asked providers to give priority to patients who were due for their second dose, so that people could finish the series.
People who wanted the vaccine during a pause could ask their doctor or a pharmacy about supply. For other vaccines offered at the clinic, see Immunizations.
