In February, March and April 2021, the county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held a COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center almost every Saturday. This announcement was one of that series.
How the Saturday clinics worked
- New doses went only to people with appointments. Eligibility widened over the spring, from people 65 and older in February to people 16 and older by April. People signed up through the state system at vaccinate.wv.gov or by phone at 1-833-734-0965.
- Second doses went to people who got a first Moderna or Pfizer dose from the health department in set weeks. The health department called these people to schedule. Those who did not get a call were told to come at their first-dose appointment time.
- Drive-through shots were given on the Coliseum’s Lee Street lot for people with a drive-through appointment.
- People with appointments were sure to get a vaccine and were asked not to come more than 15 minutes early. Free parking was in the Quarrier Street garage.
Partners included the City of Charleston, the Kanawha County Commission, Charleston Area Medical Center, Thomas Health, West Virginia Health Right, FamilyCare, the University of Charleston and the West Virginia National Guard.
Other clinics in the series: March 6, 2021, March 13, 2021, March 20, 2021, April 10, 2021 and April 17, 2021. See also the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
