Health Department, KCEAA and CAMC Test for COVID-19 at Charleston Facility

On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, a team from the county health department, the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA) and Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) tested 52 patients and 92 staff members at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center in Charleston for COVID-19.

The testing was part of an effort to test or retest residents and staff at every nursing home and long-term care facility in Kanawha County. The week before, the governor had issued an executive order that all nursing home residents and staff in the state be tested. The county work was set to finish by Friday, April 24, 2020.

The health department said it had started to test staff and residents at these facilities weeks earlier, as soon as a facility reported a positive case. On April 20, it reported testing under way at 2 facilities, support for testing at 7 more, and testing complete at 4. The West Virginia National Guard also helped across the county.
