On Thursday, February 22, 2018, the health department gave free flu shots on a KRT bus parked at the Transit Mall in downtown Charleston. The clinic ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The bus clinic was one stop of Project Last Shot. Under this program, the Kanawha County Commission bought the county’s remaining 4,000 flu shots. Any resident who had not had a flu shot that season could get one free. The Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority (KRT) was one of the program partners.
The stops that week were:
- Tuesday, February 20: Bible Center Church, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Thursday, February 22: the KRT bus at the Transit Mall, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Friday, February 23: Manna Meal, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
By Friday, February 16, 179 people had received a free flu shot through the program. Health officials expected the flu season to last into May. See Project Last Shot: Free County-Funded Flu Shots (2018) and Widespread Influenza Activity and Severity in West Virginia.
