HIV Testing in Charleston

Free HIV testing was offered in Charleston as part of the outreach series that the county health department and community partners ran in 2021.

In the city, the events moved between neighborhoods, mostly the West Side and the East End, and were often held in vacant lots. Outreach teams also visited homeless shelters and encampments.

Testing at these outreach events was free and came with linkage to care for anyone who tested positive. COVID-19 testing and vaccines, plus hepatitis A, hepatitis B and tetanus shots, were also offered. Residents who could not reach an event could call the health department at 304-348-8080 to set up an HIV test by appointment.
