The county health department held a COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Nitro, in western Kanawha County. It was part of the 2021 shift from large clinics in Charleston to smaller clinics in towns across the county.
After the weekly clinics at the Charleston Coliseum paused in late April 2021, health officials said they would take the vaccine to where people were. In June 2021, Nitro High School held a clinic for students who needed a second dose. Nitro High School was also one of eight sites on Arms Across Kanawha day in October 2021.
