New Year’s Day, January 1, is a legal holiday in West Virginia. When January 1 falls on a Saturday, the state observes the holiday on the Friday before. When it falls on a Sunday, the state observes it on the Monday after.
The county health department office in Charleston closed in observance of the New Year’s state holiday. For example, the office closed on Friday, December 31, 2021, because New Year’s Day 2022 fell on a Saturday.
