Health Officer Suggests Testing for Judicial Annex Employees

By April 1, 2020, seven employees of the Kanawha County Judicial Annex in Charleston had tested positive for COVID-19. The spouse of one employee also tested positive. The last exposure in the building was on March 19, and the building was cleaned. The annex stayed closed until at least April 6.

The county health officer said that COVID-19 tests were still in short supply. The health department had received rapid test kits that gave results in about 10 minutes. She said these tests could be used for clusters such as the one at the Judicial Annex. People who wanted a test were told to call the health department hotline at 304-348-1088.

On April 2, 2020, health officials said 30 annex employees had tested negative. Eight first responders also tested negative. Annex employees with symptoms were asked to call the hotline to schedule a test.
