Free COVID-19 testing took place in the parking lot of George Washington High School, 1522 Tennis Club Road, Charleston, from Monday, September 28 to Thursday, October 1, 2020.
The hours were 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Testing was free and open to all Kanawha County residents, including people with no symptoms.
Why the testing was added
On September 28, 2020, the governor said the state would increase testing in Kanawha County that week. Kanawha and Barbour were the only two counties in the orange zone on the state’s county alert map at that time. The West Virginia National Guard and the state Department of Health and Human Resources led the effort.
The same week, the state also listed testing with flu shots at South Charleston High School on October 1 and at Riverside High School in Belle on October 2.
