George Washington High School, 1522 Tennis Club Road, Charleston, WV

This event was one day of a four-day COVID-19 testing push in the parking lot of George Washington High School, 1522 Tennis Club Road, Charleston. The testing ran from Monday, September 28, to Thursday, October 1, 2020.

The schedule

  • Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Testing was free. It was open to all county residents, including people with no symptoms.

Why the state added the testing

At that time, Kanawha and Barbour were the only two counties in the orange zone on the state’s county alert map. The state said it would add testing in both counties that week. The West Virginia National Guard and the state Department of Health and Human Resources led the effort with the county health department.

Results

WCHS-TV reported that on Tuesday, September 29, the health department and the National Guard tested 361 people at the school and gave 141 flu shots.
