Operation Drumstick was a week of combined COVID-19 testing and flu shot events in Kanawha County in November 2020, timed to the Thanksgiving holiday. The county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority ran the events. The aim was to slow the spread of both viruses over the holidays.
WCHS Radio reported this schedule:
- Monday: Shawnee Sports Complex, Dunbar, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday: Quincy Center, Belle, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Wednesday: the health department, Lee Street, Charleston, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Thursday: Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center, Charleston, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Since September 2020, the health department had offered flu shots at its COVID-19 testing sites. Its health officer said flu and COVID-19 symptoms were very similar, and only a test could tell them apart. See Operation Drumstick and the health department office.
