Drive-up COVID-19 testing at the county health department office, 108 Lee Street East in Charleston, was held many times in 2020. In the fall of that year, the events often added free flu shots.
In September 2020 the health department received its first flu vaccine shipment, with more than 10,000 doses. From then on, people could get a flu shot at a COVID-19 testing site. The health officer said flu and COVID-19 symptoms were very similar, and that testing for both was the way to tell them apart. High-dose flu shots were offered for people 65 and older.
Later office sessions included:
- A Wednesday in November 2020, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as part of Operation Drumstick, a week of testing and flu shot events timed to Thanksgiving
- Drive-up COVID-19 testing and flu vaccines on December 10, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The events were run with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority. For the start of office testing in June 2020, see Drive-Up COVID-19 Testing at the Health Department. See also the health department office.
