Better Breathers Clubs

Better Breathers Clubs are support groups run by the American Lung Association. They are for adults with chronic lung disease, such as COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer and asthma. Family members, friends and caregivers can come too.

Trained facilitators lead the meetings. A meeting can include a guest speaker, a group discussion about everyday problems, and social time. Topics include how to manage lung disease, breathing techniques, staying active, healthy eating, medicines, supplemental oxygen and quality of life.

Clubs meet in person or online, usually by Zoom. The American Lung Association says the program has run for more than 50 years. One community service listing shows no fee to join.

To find a club, use the “Find a Club” search on the American Lung Association website and pick a state. If no club meets nearby, a virtual club is an option. The association asks people to contact the club facilitator first to check the meeting time and place. In 2026, the West Virginia listings included a club at Roane General Hospital in Spencer that met every third Thursday. The Lung HelpLine at 1-800-LUNG-USA (1-800-586-4872) can also help.
