Sanitarians make push to reopen businesses

1/14/2014

Sanitarians from the health department are fanning out today to reinspect businesses initially closed because of West Virginia American Water Company’s “do not use” order. Business owners are asked to ensure someone is available when the sanitarians arrive for their inspections.

“We’ll be reinspecting permitted businesses in all the areas when the ‘do not use’ order has been lifted,” state Dr. Rahul Gupta, health officer for the Kanawha-Charleston and Putnam County health departments. “We’re being assisted by the National Guard, the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority and sanitarians from other counties, including Cabell-Huntington Health Department.”

Gupta said KCHD santarians continue to work late into each night, opening businesses that had already instituted the flushing protocols indicated by West Virginia American Water Company.

“We realize these businesses are the economic engines that drive our economy,” Gupta said. “We want to work with them, so they are able to reopen as soon as possible.”
