HIV Testing in Marmet

The county health department and community partners brought free HIV testing to Marmet, in eastern Kanawha County, during the 2021 outreach series.

In 2021 the county health department and community partners took free HIV testing to sites across Kanawha County. Health officials reported 11 new HIV cases in the county in the first months of 2021, eight of them linked to injection drug use, and 60 cases since 2018.

Testing at these outreach events was free and came with linkage to care for anyone who tested positive. COVID-19 testing and vaccines, plus hepatitis A, hepatitis B and tetanus shots, were also offered. Residents who could not reach an event could call the health department at 304-348-8080 to set up an HIV test by appointment.

Another eastern county stop was the HIV testing at the Chelyan Center in Cabin Creek.
