The county health department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority held community COVID-19 vaccine clinics in 2021. The large clinics took place on Saturdays at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Partners included the City of Charleston, the Kanawha County Commission, Charleston Area Medical Center, Thomas Health, West Virginia Health Right, FamilyCare, the University of Charleston and the West Virginia National Guard. More than 3,000 vaccines were given at one February clinic.
The weekly Coliseum clinics paused after April 24, 2021. That day walk-ins age 16 and older could get a Moderna or Pfizer dose. After that the health department moved to smaller clinics in communities.
