On Monday, October 25, 2021, the county health department said at least 75% of eligible Kanawha County residents had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Eligible meant age 12 and older.
State data showed 116,236 residents in that age group with at least one dose, out of more than 154,000. Ohio County was next in the state at 71.2%. Statewide, 64% of residents had at least one dose.
The county health officer called it a milestone residents could be proud of. The next goal was to get at least 75% of eligible residents fully vaccinated with second doses. The health officer said herd immunity might come at about 80%. Cases were rising among residents ages 20 to 40, most of them unvaccinated.
Testing and vaccines were offered weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the health department on Lee Street East in Charleston, with no appointment needed. Flu shots were also available.
