New County Health Officer
Rahul Gupta, MD, MPH, FACP
Prior to joining KCHD, Dr. Gupta served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Meharry Medical College; and Clinical Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University Medical School, both in Nashville, Tennessee. While in Nashville, he worked at the City’s only public hospital, Nashville General Hospital and supported various efforts by the hospital to develop, integrate and measure adherence to various public health initiatives including those for the underserved and indigent population. Such initiatives were wide ranging from immunization initiatives to reducing heart diseases, stroke and pneumonia related morbidity and mortality. He was also instrumental in spearheading the various quality assurance initiatives in health care while at Nashville General Hospital.
Dr. Gupta is an active member of several societies and editorial boards, and has authored numerous articles and two textbooks in medicine. He shares his unique expertise and perspective in his frequent blogs and serves on the Modern Medicine Editorial Advisory Board (www.ModernMedicine.com).
Dr. Gupta earned his medical degree at the University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, India. He completed his internship and residency training at St. Joseph Hospital/Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. Dr. Gupta is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he has a Masters in Public Health (MPH) in Healthcare Organization and Health Policy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Dr. Gupta has also been awarded a fellowship from the American College of Physicians.
Prior to being involved in public health and academic medicine, Dr. Gupta also successfully managed a private practice. As a faculty member, Dr. Gupta has been recognized as the best teacher several times by the medical students and residents. He was also awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society Award. He serves as a key contact for the American College of Physicians, helping to influence legislators on pivotal health policy issues. |
