Kanawha-Charleston Health Department Recommendations to Prevent Swine Flu at Fairs

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department would like to make the public aware of the swine (pig) flu cases that have appeared recently in nearby states. As of today, the number of cases of H3N2v virus since July 12, 2012 is one hundred forty-five cases confirmed by the CDC. The number of cases reported by each state’s health department may be higher than CDC confirmed cases. There have been two hospitalizations and all patients have fully recovered. Additionally, health officials in nearby Gallia County Ohio are investigating a large outbreak of influenza cases believed to be associated with contact with pigs at the Gallia County Fair.
